Securing solid backup is a necessary part of being a birth worker. Birth is unpredictable & babies come on their own schedule. Even with the best planning it is impossible for me to be available 100% of the time for every single client. Sometimes I get sick. Sometimes a family emergency comes up. Sometimes births are long and I need a reprieve from someone with more energy and fresh ideas. And sometimes I am with another client in labor. All clients are guaranteed a backup doula in case I would be unavailable to support them.
